The Origins of Cinnamon Rolls
My favorite holiday is Christmas. My family has many traditions for the holidays, but one of my favorite newer ones is having cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. We make Pillsbury cinnamon rolls because they are easy, quick, and taste good. I actually started this tradition by one Christmas just making cinnamon rolls, and it just stuck and I continued every year after that.
Cinnamon rolls date back to the 17th century in Egypt and Rome but became the most popular in Sweden. Cinnamon rolls started becoming a thing during the Age of Exploration, because cinnamon was becoming a more available spice. Bakers would experiment by adding cinnamon to pastries, which created the first cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon rolls became popular in America when German and Swedish immigrants began making them as we know today as traditional cinnamon rolls. Then in 1956 Pillsbury began making and selling them in the tubes we all know as a traditional cinnamon roll.
This is an important tradition to me and my family because its nice to have a yummy warm easy to make breakfast on Christmas morning.
