The Origins of Deviled Eggs

Every Thanksgiving I eat deviled eggs. My grandmother makes them from scratch. She also makes them on Halloween for dinner. When she isn't here anymore I think my sister will be a good replacement in that category because she's a really good cook. She also learned to cook from my grandmother.

My grandmother first made deviled eggs when she was a kid and they were really good. So she started making them more and more and eventually made her own recipe. Which is why now she makes them from scratch so she can make them her own way. I'm not sure how she makes them but she uses one main ingredient that makes it better and that's paprika. I think she makes them every year to remind herself of where she started and how it's going when it comes to making the eggs.

Deviled eggs also go by Russian eggs or dressed eggs and were first traced back to ancient Rome. It´s a cold food and typically used as a side but can be used as a appetizer or main course. In ancient Roman times they used deviled eggs for gatherings more common than not; it was wealthy Romans who ate this food. The first known recipe goes back to the 13th century. The recipe most often used was a mix of cilantro, pepper, and onion juice, then beaten with murri, a sauce made of fermented fish, oil and salt.

It's an important tradition because it reminds everyone that, even though it's a simple tradition, it's something that makes Thanksgiving worth celebrating. But it also just gives you something to do and gives you a moment to come together with your family. It may give you a bond or relationship with family that you didn't think you would have with them just because you worked with them on making food. You also should always want to remember your family history so it can be passed on through generations of family.
