The Origins of Eggnog

Christmas is my favorite holiday. For my family it's a time we all get together; we watch a lot of Christmas movies. My favorite thing to drink around Christmas time is eggnog. My grandma makes the food at Christmas, she’ll come up with something new every year for us to try. When my grandma is gone, I will be the one taking over her recipes; she has a box with all her recipes in it.

Eggnog began in Europe, as early as the 13th century. This drink was often served in family gatherings. Most agree eggnog originated from the early medieval British “posset," a hot, milky, ale-like drink. Eggnog was often used in toasts to prosperity and good health.

Eggnog is important to me because it only comes in the month of December and eggnog is a family gathering tradition. It makes me feel good when my family is close and together to celebrate something so amazing.
