Better Benefits and Hours

I think food industry workers need better benefits and hours.

People with kids have it harder because they have to leave work a lot if something happens to their kid. I've seen it happen where employees have to call out whenever their kid gets sick or they have an appointment. When they leave work they don't get paid for the hours that they missed and won't be able to make it. “According to Snagajob data, 35% of current hourly workers and job seekers are parents, and 18% of unemployed hourly workers had to leave jobs to take care of family or children.” (“Four Reasons Workers Are Staying Away…”)

Some food places don't have health care for their employees or even have health insurance. Some jobs don’t offer healthcare to their employees so when they work for them they are not getting healthcare if they get sick while working. In a recent Black Box survey, health benefits and paid time off was one of the main things workers said they wanted.

They give their employees bad hours or don't communicate with them enough so they can have great hours. Some jobs give their employees really bad hours so they are not making the money that they should be making for those hours. “In a recent survey by Black Bo, 87% of workers said they would rather have a set livable wage than tips”. ( “Four Reasons Workers Are Staying Away…”)

In conclusion I think that food industry places should treat their workers with respect and should have better benefits and hours so they can provide for their families and themselves. They should not have to worry about having to leave their jobs and find a better job.
